EFT Tapping, also known as psychological acupressure, falls under the umbrella of Energy Psychology. Energy Psychology is a group of techniques that focus on the person's thoughts, feelings, and emotions at the same time as the client activates some aspect of the bio-energy system of the body, such as tapping certain areas such as their meridians and chakras. EFT tapping reduces stress and calms the nervous system. EFT sessions are gentle and do not require clients to relive traumatic memories. In addition, clients will often learn self-help methods they can use on their own. EFT can rapidly help people reduce strong painful emotions as well as process traumatic events and shift their limiting beliefs. Research has shown that it is effective in addressing pain, phobias and trauma, among other problems. It can be used to calm anxiety and reduce cravings. Whether it is money, relationships, career, health, or body issues, EFT is a powerful technique that can help you get more out of life.
You will be asked to tune into your body and rate the emotion you're feeling about a belief or topic from 0 to 10. This rating is your SUD (Subjective Units of Distress) score. At 10, the emotion you are feeling is at its worst; at 0, it is completely gone. This SUD rating helps both of us measure the effectiveness of the techniques during the session. You will tap along with me during the session, each of us tapping on the end points of the meridians of the face and torso. After a few rounds, you will be asked to tune in again and see where your number is. The goal is to get the SUD number closer to 0.
People often ask me if they will need more than one session. Some issues can be dealt with in one or two sessions. Issues that are deep-rooted, persistent, or complex could take longer. I have found that when clients commit to at least four sessions, they typically experience a real breakthrough. The multiple sessions give them enough time to feel a shift. Clients love how they feel at the end of a session. What was once upsetting to them no longer triggers an emotional response. My clients tell me they feel calmer, happier, and less stressed than they did at the beginning of the session.
